health update

We had our appt. on Thursday with the lung specialist for Sophie. It was very informative & helpful, so we are really glad we were able to go. What the doctor thinks is going on is that Sophie is still dealing with the after effects of a bad cold she had in December. Her lung x-rays (which she didn't even cry when getting them taken!!!) showed some mucus in her airways and her bronchial tubes are inflamed. The reason nights are so bad is because she breathes less often and more shallow so it allows more mucus build-up. So now she's on some heavier meds to use twice a day through her nebulizer. Last night was the first night of the full dosage and she ended up vomiting so we're not sure if it was an isolated event or because of the meds.

The doctor agreed that her loud raspy breathing (called stridor, fyi) is due to a soft trachea. That should just get better as she gets older. We weren't as concerned with that as the coughing so we were ok with that news.

And finally, the doctor also found a slight ear infection in her right ear which we just have to keep an eye on. She hasn't been showing any discomfort or having fevers so we're all hoping it'll just heal itself.

We go back in a month for 2 appts. One is a swallow study to check for reflux as the doc thinks she still has that and actually gave her some new meds to start taking now for that. And then the week after that we have a follow up to see how the nebulizer treatments are going. We're just happy that we have some answers and there seems to be a light at the end!

Twins game!

Today we took Sophie to her first Twins game. She did so well, even though it was a long day. They unfortunately lost, but we had fun anyway.

another doctor's visit

We took Sophie back to the doctor today as her coughing isn't getting any better and we're pretty sure it's not normal to have a cough for about 3 months. Maybe it's just us (: Anyway, we now have an appointment next week with a pulmonologist (sp??) which is a lung doctor and in May we have an appointment for a swallow study to check for reflux. At least we know we're not crazy and that she's going to get checked out even more. These nights and mornings of coughing are starting to wear on all 3 of us! We'll keep you posted.

also for those of you who were asking/wondering, at her 6 month check up she was in the 90th percentile for height (27 in.) and in the 87th percentile for weight (little over 18 lbs.)

swing time

We've been impatiently waiting for the weather to get warmer so we could take Sophie outside more. We've really wanted to see how she liked swinging. We had a feeling she would love it and we were right. She was all smiles and giggles. However, it might have been a little too chilly. She was a little purple and blue when we got home. Sometimes we kind of wonder about our parenting skills...

how many pictures does it take...

...to get 3 kids (3 1/2 years, 17 months, 6 1/2 months) to all look at one camera? We wouldn't know, but it was still fun to have all the girls together. My sister had a brunch this weekend and invited one of my oldest friends, Kylene, and her family. We had fun watching Sophie watch Molly & Elliana playing. It was also very fun to see Kylene and have our families together...the ones we talked about having since we were in middle school!

Happy Easter

Even though we didn't have time to go to church on Sunday, we of course had to make sure Sophie wore her Easter dress. She also got a fun Easter basket from her grandparents and Aunt Becca, which she loved!

more family

my sister, Becca, and my parents...Sophie had fun being spoiled and played with all weekend!

great grandparents

For Easter we drove down to KC to visit my family. On our way down we stopped in Iowa to visit Mike's grandparents. It's fun to see all of our grandparents with Sophie.

guard dog...kinda

I walk into the living room and this is what I find. Bailey usually doesn't care too much for Sophie. She usually just ignores her, so when I see something like this it has to be documented! And, yes, Bailey really is falling asleep...it's not the camera.

future star?

Sophie and I went to watch her dad and uncles play in the Minnehaha alumni basketball tournament. Afterwards Uncle Matt and Uncle Jake were giving her pointers.

Ava & Sophie

Friday night we were able to hang out with our friends Ryan and Lisa and their very cute daughter, Ava. Ava is going to be a big sister in a few months so she was showing her parents how she'll be lovin' on her new sibling! They were really cute together. A lot of hugs and kisses!

solids...

We haven't gotten Sophie really eating solids yet, but thought we'd try these teething biscuits. She loved it. Probably because it's so messy.
