fun videos

Here are a couple of videos...the first one is of Sophie "swimming" at the hotel in NC.  She LOVED it.  And, at the end, you'll be able to see how proud of herself she is!  The second one is of Mike and Sophie doing their shower dance.  Sophie is really into taking showers so when we told her it was time for one she started doing this little "dance" so Mike cleverly labeled it as the "shower dance."

fall weekend at the cabin

After we got back from NC we drove up to the cabin for the weekend.  Our friend, Josh, from church and his daughter, Emilia, joined us as well.  The girls had a blast together and there were only a few minor moments that someone didn't want to share a certain toy, but overall they got along great.  I missed Josh's wife, Monica, though, as I got to listen to a lot of fantasy football talk as Mike & Josh compared their teams and discussed who should be in their lineups.  And, no, we have NOT bought our daughter the proper winter gear (she does have a coat and a fleece though!) so yes, she is wearing my hat!

Night #1

Sophie made it through her first night in her big girl bed! It took a little coaxing and a lot of cuddling, but she made it through the night and didn't even get out of bed once. Who knows what tonight will bring, but we were pretty proud of her. We figured since she had slept in 4 different places in the span of about a week, now would be a good time to try out the big girl bed. She was a little scared but we made a big deal about it this morning. She thinks she's big stuff now!

north carolina

Mike had to go to Asheville, NC this week for work so since I had the week off of work, Sophie and I tagged along. It was a great vacation for all of us (even though Mike had to work a couple of days!). Sophie was a fantastic traveler and we were relieved to know that we can still travel fairly easy with her even though she's entering full blown toddlerhood. The days that Mike worked Sophie and I did something fun in the morning and then came back and took LONG afternoon naps. One morning we went to a Wildlife Nature Center and the next morning we went to a children's museum. In the evenings we walked around downtown Asheville and went swimming in the pool at the hotel. On Thursday, Mike didn't have to work too much so we drove along the Blue Ridge Parkway through the mountains. Sophie loved all the tunnels and the "big mountains." We had a very early flight this morning (6:40 eastern time) so it's been a long day for all of us! We loved having time together as a family that had our undivided attention. On a sidenote, I was a little saddened to find out that the tray in the airplane seats could not fully come down in my lap as my belly has gotten a little big. Ok, a lot big, but hey, I am 30 weeks prego (: Anyway, here are some pictures from the trip:

other happenings

September has been a busy, busy month.  It started off with my dad's birthday and then snuck in between Sophie's birthday and Matt & Sarah's wedding was Matt's birthday and our anniversary.

Mike and I met at Covenant Pines 10 years ago and now have been married for 7 years!  It's unbelievable to us both that it has been that long.  We often talk about how grateful we are that we still have a lot of fun together and truly like hanging out together.  Our life together has changed over these 10 years, especially with adding kiddos, but I still feel like I'm the luckiest girl alive. I have a husband who loves me, puts up with my moodiness, makes me laugh A LOT, is my closest friend in the world, and we're still having fun.  What more could a girl want?!  Te amo mucho husband.

one of our first pictures taken together at camp, 10 years ago (mike is 19, I'm 20)  Yes. I know we look very young and little (:

wedding day!  9.22.01

and today...with a beautiful little girl we adore and a baby boy on the way!  How things change in 10 years!

what a week!

This past week or so has been incredibly busy. I think it'll take Sophie a few days to recuperate!  It all started a little over a week ago when our car window was smashed in and my purse stolen while I dropped Sophie off at daycare. I know, stupid of me to leave my purse on the seat! I am usually pretty good at at least hiding it, but I was in a hurry and made a stupid decision.  After canceling our cards and eventually having to close our bank accounts, I think everything is finally coming together.  It was a hard lesson learned.

But, the best part of the past week was Matt (Mike's brother) and Sarah's wedding.  They were married at Sarah's parent's house.  It was beautiful and fun!  We couldn't be happier for them and we are so excited to have Sarah as a permanent part of the family.  It's funny because I had always worried that when another girl joined this male-dominated Verdoorn family, I might be a little jealous, but that hasn't been the case at all.  I love having her around and she's become a good friend!  Here are quite a few pictures of the weekend. I had an impossible time picking as I've had a couple hundred pictures sent to me.  Enjoy!
